Traditional AI vs. Generative AI

Traditional AI is primarily used to analyze data, find patterns, and make predictions based on that data. This is the type of AI that has been around for quite some time and is used heavily in business and education.

Grammarly would be an example of a Traditional AI. When you upload a document, Grammarly looks for patterns of text that match existing patterns it finds across the internet. Grammarly can find exact matches and show where that text came from or it can flag text as standing out from the other text of the document and recommend further investigation by you.

Generative AI focuses on creating original content, creating something new from analyzing data. This type of AI is relatively new to the general public but is being quickly adopted into business.

ChatGPT would be an example of a Generative AI. This AI works by a user inputting a question or a prompt and then analyzing and comparing that to resources it finds on the internet. Based on your question or prompt, ChatGPT generates a summary of the found information or produces a product that matches your question or prompt. DALL-E 2 would be another example, the user inputs a description or prompt and DALL-E 2 generates unique images for the user to download.
