Members of the community served by Northwood Tech may fill out a form for a community patron account in the Library. Patrons must be 18 years or older. Due to licensing agreements with library vendors, community patron account privileges limit access to e-books or databases to use inside the Library. No access is granted for e-books or databases outside of the Library.
Community accounts expire after one year. Community patrons may renew their account without filling out another form if it is less than a year since their account expired and if the Community Patron Guidelines have not been updated since they created or last renewed their account.
Although community patrons are always welcome in the Library, priority is given to Northwood Technical College students.
To apply for a community patron account, patrons must show a non-expired government issued picture ID (such as a driver’s license), have an email account, phone number.
Due to limited resources, community patrons have two-hour access to computers each day.
Classroom Support Technicians may refuse access to non-Northwood Tech users during times of high demand. They also reserve the right to ask non-Northwood Tech and recreational users to give up their computers for college students who need them for educational or curriculum-related activities.
Community patrons cannot use flashdrives or other external memory drives with the computers.
Community patrons cannot use computers if they have outstanding fines or overdue items.
Community patrons may borrow up to five items at a time from the General, Health & Wellness, or Audiovisual collections. Please bring a driver’s license or other photo ID to verify identity upon check-out.
Items from the Course Reserves, Reference, and BlueBox collections are not available for community check-out.
Headphones are the only equipment available for check-out, and they are only available for use in the Library.
Community patrons may renew items once, and they must bring the item into the Library to renew.
Fines vary depending on the material borrowed. See the Library policy page for more details. Community patrons cannot check out items if they have outstanding fines or overdue items.
Our request services like interlibrary loan are not available to community patrons. We recommend that community patrons ask their local library for this service.
Huddle rooms are reserved for Northwood Tech students and staff use.
The Library holds all community patron information confidential under the same privacy standards as college students and employee information.
