Clear and Legible Fonts

What:

  • The selection and styling of fonts in your content.

Why:

  • Easy-to-read fonts improve accessibility for users with vision impairments or reading difficulties.

Best Practices:

  • Choose simple, familiar sans-serif fonts such as Arial, Verdana, or Calibri.
  • Use at least 12-point font for body text; larger sizes are even better.
  • Set line height to at least 1.5 times the font size.
  • Avoid full text justification to maintain consistent word spacing.
  • Choose fonts where characters like "l", "I", and "1" are easily distinguishable.

The left side, labeled Good, shows a pie chart with high color contrast, labeled sections of the pie and distinct patterns for each wedge. The right side, labeled Bad, shows a pie chart with low contrast, and has text below it with very low contrast, which is difficult to see.
