How to be a Successful Student

Organizing Course Materials

Required Materials:

  • Some courses have a required material list. This can be found in the course information in your MyNorthwoodTech and the course syllabus.
  • For some programs, you will receive a list of materials and where to purchase them.
  • Contact your advisor if you have any questions about materials needed.

Additional Supplies (supplies needed as a student):

  • Paper: Post-it notes, index cards, notebooks, folders, ect…
  • Writing: pens, pencils, highlighters
  • Planner
  • Computer that meets WITC's Technology Requirements
  • Printer
  • Inspiration: family photo, poster, encouraging notes ("pick me up" for when you're busy)

Recommended Organization:

  • Desk with a drawer and bins to hold materials so you can easily find them when needed
  • Physical: 3-ring binder for each class: add paper for notes, folders for homework, and organize with page protectors
    • Keep a copy of your course syllabus
    • Instructor contact information
    • Planning Calendar
  • Digital: Create a folder for each class on your computer or in OneDrive (we'll talk about OneDrive later on)
    • Download a copy of your syllabus
    • Create a folder for each assignment to save your files in
    • Keep your Outlook calendar up to current with assignments and important dates (we'll talk about digital calendars later on)
