Messages

Viewing Messages for All Courses

  1. The total number of new messages is indicated on the Messages navigation option on the initial Blackboard page.
  2. When the global Messages page is accessed, the total number of new messages changes to a dot.
  3. Each course with new messages will have a number in a circle next to the course title.
  4. Each course will have a New Message option, allowing you to create and send a message for a course without needing to enter the course itself.

Viewing Messages Inside a Course

Messages for a course can be accessed in two ways.

  • Select Messages from the global navigation menu, and then click on the desired course.
  • Select Courses from the global navigation, clicking on the course, and then clicking on the Messages menu option within the course.

The Messages tab organizes messages by thread.

  1. The total number of new messages for a course is listed next to the Messages tab within the course.
  2. A number in a circle to the right of the send of a message indicates how many new messages there are for that message thread.
  3. Messages can be deleted using the trash can icon on the right side of the message pane.
  4. New messages can be drafted by clicking on the New Message button in the upper right corner of the Messages tab view.

Replying to a Message

  1. The list of message recipients is listed at the top of the message pane.
  2. Recipients are added to the message reply using the plus sign in the upper right corner.
  3. The sender's name and date stamp are listed below the recipients.
  4. The content of the message is located below the sender's name.
  5. Send an email copy to recipients, but communication will still need to be done through Messages.
  6. Use the editable field to compose your response, including formatting, files or links.
  7. Press the Reply button to send your response.
